A SHIRLEY manufacturing company has expanded after it completed an acquisition of an American business.

Hill and Smith Holdings, which has its headquarters on Arleston Way, purchased the business and assets of United Fiberglass of America from a charitable foundation in a deal worth approximately £11.4million.

United Fiberglass is a designer, manufacturer and supplier of composite pipe, conduit and bridge drain infrastructure systems.

It will become part of Hill and Smith’s composites business, Creative Composites Group, within the Engineered Solutions division.

Alan Giddins, executive chair at Hill and Smith Holdings, said: “The acquisition of United Fiberglass is in line with our strategy of acquiring businesses within niche markets with strong long-term growth potential and doing so outside of a formal auction process.

“United Fiberglass is a business we have known for many years and is an excellent fit with our existing, high growth US composites business.”
