A SOLIHULL teenager and their family will be at the heart of BBC One’s monthly charity appeal programme on Sunday (October 19).
Charity show Lifeline will feature children’s charity React, which aims to improve the quality of life for terminally ill children, who are cared for by low-income families.
The ten-minute long film will feature the stories of three families the charity has helped over the past few months, including the family of 16-year-old Lana who lives in Solihull.
The charity helps families by providing specialist equipment such as wheelchairs, car seats, disability trikes and other mobility aids to assist in the care of a seriously ill child, so long as it is unavailable through any other source.
React can also provide respite holidays for its families and assistance towards end of life care for those grieving.
The charity tries to ensure every request is responded to within a maximum 48-hour window.
The React team emphasises that its families do not have the luxury of time to sit on lengthy waiting lists or navigate red tape to access the support their child needs. When a child’s life is short, it is an immediate response that is absolutely vital.
Conor O’Donnabhain, React’s head of fundraising, said: “This upcoming television appeal is a huge opportunity for us to ensure we can reach out to even more families caring for a seriously ill child, who are in urgent need of help.
“React receives no government funding and it is often the case that if we cannot help, a child will likely go without support that is essential. Please tune in to Lifeline and encourage your friends, family and colleagues to do the same. Every penny raised will help us give depth to the lives of more children in desperate need.”
React’s Lifeline appeal will be broadcast at 2.20pm on BBC One, and will be available on BBC iPlayer until November 9.
