GMB union has announced strike action at ID Verde, who provide parks, cemetery and public space maintenance to Solihull Council.

Workers at the contracting giant announced the strike dates after pay talks failed to overcome the threat of a real-terms pay cut on staff.

GMB members at ID Verde in Solihull will take strike action for one week from Monday July 31 with around 50 staff expected to join the industrial action.

Rebecca Mitchell, GMB Organiser, said: “IDVerde is a national contracting giant, to treat local Solhuill workers, tax payers and residents in this way is a disgrace.

“During the summer holidays Solihull’s public spaces are a refuge to local residents and families.

“Local maintenance workers make this possible, keeping our public spaces and parks clean and safe for local people.

“ID Verde’s actions recklessness will soon leave these parks will quickly become filthy and unusable.

“Local people are understandably concerned, not least about the impact this could have on up keep of our cemeteries too.

“IDV erde and the council must urgently get back around the table with a solution before Solihull faces a long hot summer without our much-loved green spaces”.
