A DAD of four put his best foot forward and took on a gruelling 24 hour charity running challenge.

John Brassey Hamilton completed his Escape from Meriden for the British Heart Foundation in memory of loved ones lost to heart disease.

The 44-year-old set off on his unique ultra-run event at midnight on November 15.

There was no set course for the tax adviser and he had to cover the furthest distance possible “as the crow flies” without the aid of stewards or refreshment stations.

John ran over 72 miles to Breadstone in Gloucestershire in 24 hours and has raised more than £5,000 for the British Heart Foundation.

John’s business partner’s father passed away in his mid-50s due to heart disease.

In 2022, Johns’s first wife died aged 41 from long-term health issues complicated by Covid-19.

In 2022, John met his current wife, whose first husband died from heart-related issues aged 38. Together, they are raising four daughters.

John began running in 2012 after reaching 16 stone and following the birth of his second daughter.

John said: “This run was not just a personal challenge but a tribute to those we’ve lost and a call to action for everyone to take heart health seriously.”

Balvinder Kaur, British Heart Foundation fundraising manager, said: “John has set an exceptional challenge that defies all odds. Learning the backstory of why he has taken this head-on is truly humbling.

“Like so many others, he has been deeply affected by heart and cardiovascular diseases, which claim the lives of loved ones every day. We hope that the funds raised will contribute to research that will one day lead to new cures and treatments, ultimately changing and extending the lives of millions, allowing them to spend more time with their loved ones.”
