Sarah Mason 12th Aug, 2021

SOLIHULL Council has appointed a new director of Children’s Services.

Carly Speechley will take up the role in October and will replace Louise Rees who left the authority last month.

Assistant Director Tim Browne is acting interim Director during the transition period.

Since 2017 Carly has been director of Children and Families at Sheffield City Council. Prior to this, she held assistant director posts at Kirklees and Wakefield councils.

On her new appointment, Carly said: “I’m absolutely delighted to be joining Solihull Council as the Director of Children’s Services.

“The role is a privilege anywhere but to be in the role in a place with so much opportunity to offer its children and young people is hugely exciting.

“I’ve met many colleagues in Solihull during the process and there is clearly a genuine commitment and enthusiasm to work together to ensure that all children and young people achieve their potential.

“My personal passion and unrelenting drive for wanting the very best possible outcomes for children, families and communities is what gets me out of bed in a morning.

“Children are the future and it is for us to give them the grounding to enable them to make a successful contribution to society as adults.”

Sheffield-born Carly enjoys walking in her spare time and is looking forward to exploring the countryside in and around Solihull.

Councillor Richard Holt, the cabinet member for Children’s Services, said: “It is a real pleasure to welcome Carly to our team.

“She has a wealth of experience in leading Children’s Services and I am confident she will make a positive impact on improving the lives of our children, young people and families in Solihull.”
