Solihull Council seeks views on its Natural Capital Investment Strategy

PEOPLE who live and work in Solihull are invited to give their views on Solihull Council’s draft Natural Capital Investment Strategy (NCIS).

The NCIS is the council’s response to the biodiversity crisis, and how we will protect, restore and enhance nature, natural capital, and the natural processes that support our wellbeing.

It summarises the council’s current work around the natural environment and sets out a plan for increasing opportunities for investment in natural capital.

The strategy also outlines the actions that the council will deliver from 2024 to protect, enhance and improve natural capital, making Solihull a great place to live, work and visit.

Before the strategy is finalised and approved, the council would like to understand the views of residents, businesses and stakeholders who may have an interest in natural capital in the borough.

A 5-week consultation survey on the draft strategy is now available to complete on the Council’s engagement platform Your Voice Solihull and will be open for submissions until close of play on Wednesday March 20 2024.

Solihull Council’s cabinet member for Climate Change and Planning, Coun Andy Mackiewicz said: “Our natural environment is a vital part of Solihull, and we are lucky to have a wide range of habitats within our borough, from rivers, streams and canals to ancient woodlands and wildflower-rich grasslands.

“This strategy is a way of recognising the value of the natural environment to us, so that we can make the right decisions about how to protect, conserve, restore and enhance these valuable assets.

“It also begins to address the challenges ahead as we face the impacts of climate change on a local scale within our borough.

“I hope people will take part in the consultation and get involved in the vital work that lies ahead.”
