Solihull Council name new chief executive

Solihull Editorial 5th Jul, 2023   0

SOLIHULL Council has a new chief executive.

Following a national recruitment process Paul Johnson was ratified the appointment at a Full Council meeting on July 4.

Paul took over the reigns as acting chief executive after Nick Page resigned in the wake of a damming Ofsted report about the authority’s children’s services.

Paul has worked at Solihull Council for 15 years and was previously the authority’s director of resources and deputy chief executive.

He said: “I am honoured that the Council has appointed me as its next chief executive. Solihull is a great place with amazing staff and huge opportunities.

“I am looking forward to working with the leader of the Council and all Council members on continuing to make Solihull an inclusive place.

“One that is clean and safe and where local residents can benefit from economic growth, wherever they live in our borough.

“We have some work to do to improve our services for children and young people and I give my full commitment to deliver the improvements needed.”

Paul takes up the role with immediate effect.

Councillor Ian Courts, leader of the Council and chair of the appointment panel, said: “There was much interest following our advert to find the right chief executive for Solihull and we had a strong field of applicants from across the country.

“Paul has a strong track record of delivering on key projects for Solihull and I am thrilled we have secured him as our new chief executive.

“I am confident members, partners and Council staff will welcome his appointment too.”
