Solihull Council lends a helping hand to the borough's small businesses

Solihull Editorial 27th Nov, 2016   0

SOLIHULL Council will be hosting a number of workshops and events to support local businesses in the run-up to Small Business Saturday on December 3.

The Council is to showcase what local businesses have to offer, by putting together a programme for shoppers to discover what unique and varied businesses we have in the Borough.

Businesses are invited to organise events, tasters, demonstrations or open days to encourage new customers in and welcome loyal customers back.

A free pop-up business exhibition will also take place at Chelmsley Wood Shopping Centre on December 2 and 3, between 11am and 3pm. Local businesses – either, starting up, working from home or testing the market can take part in the exhibition or feature in the programme by emailing [email protected]

Facebook and Twitter pages (Shoplocalsolihull & @Shoplocalsoli) have been set up to promote local independent retailers, in the run up to 3 December. Over the course of the month, a variety of shopping areas and individual businesses will be highlighted.

Flying the flag for Solihull nationally is lingerie boutique Sipsey, which has been awarded a place on the Small Business Saturday National Top 100.

Businesses in the Top 100 receive media exposure as well as the chance to network in London.

Sipsey owner Sukhy Nijjar said: “I’m so happy to have been selected this year, as I really believe in supporting our local economy. As an independent, we often encourage people to shop local as we have a much better understanding of our brands and industry.”

Councillor Ian Courts, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Managed Growth, said: “Solihull is fully committed to supporting our small, independent businesses, which make a great contribution to the local economy. I encourage all our local businesses to sign up and take part in this beneficial movement.”

The Council, in conjunction with Get Set for Growth, will be offering two free bite sized training sessions covering ‘How to get business from social media’ and ‘Website content marketing’.
