Solihull cook heads to Masterchef kitchen

Solihull Editorial 23rd Mar, 2022   0

A BEAUTY salon owner from Solihull is ready to take the Masterchef kitchen by storm.

Pookie, who was born and grew up in Bangkok in Thailand, will be putting her beauty duties to one side as she’ll be taking part in this year’s Masterchef along with 45 of the UK’s most passionate and talented home cooks.

The series, which begins on tonight (March 23), will see judges John Torode and Gregg Wallace put the contestants through their paces in the ultimate test of their culinary prowess as they search for one exceptional cook, worthy of being crowned MasterChef Champion 2022.

Speaking ahead of her appearance on the show tonight Pookie, who lives with her husband, said: “Friends had often encouraged me, saying my style is very unique and finally my husband made me apply.

“I’d never really thought I was good enough to enter a competition such as that, but one day I just decided to go for it. I’m not super competitive but I love cooking, so I will give it a go, have fun and who knows how far it will take me.

“I’d like to show the world my Pookie Style.”

In the BBC show Pookie, as well as her fellow contestants, will be tasked to first create a signature dish – which will be judged blind.

If her dish is given the thumbs up she will be given a Masterchef apron and will head straight into the next round.

If not she will have to head back into the kitchen and cook once again, this time under the watchful eye of the judges who will then determine who will go into the next round.

Speaking about her cooking style Pookie said: “I am Thai with Chinese heritage and although this has a huge influence on my cooking, I don’t limit myself to Thai-Chinese food.

“I like cooking international foods but love introducing my own style with all the foods I’ve cooked.

“Most of all I want my food to be flavoursome, delicious, fun and put a smile on people’s faces.”

To see Pookie in action tune into BBC One at 8pm.
