Solihull commissions mini art trail for Stratford Road

SOLIHULL Metropolitan Borough Council has commissioned artists from Midlands creative agency Pickle Illustration to paint flowers on six utility boxes along Stratford Road.

The painting comes as part of work to brighten the Shirley high street and the six pieces will form a mini art trail through QR codes, which will encourage people to explore their local high street.

The flowers have been chosen as the trail theme to match with ‘Poppy Island’ and the white daisies at the entrance to Shirley Park.

Each design will feature hidden ‘minibeasts’ for children to find.

The council’s deputy leader and lead member for partnerships and well-being, Coun Karen Grinsell said: “I’m sure shoppers and visitors will appreciate more colour being added to Shirley through this project.

“The artists have already started to produce some eye-catching work.

“I’m looking forward to seeing the mini art trail when it is finished in a couple of months, and I hope residents will enjoy these new art pieces as they pass through the high street.”
