Solihull Care home staff ready to skydive for paramedics charity

Solihull Editorial 31st Oct, 2020   0

TEAM members from Harper Fields care home in Balsall Common will be taking to the air on Saturday, December 19 for a skydive in aid of the Ambulance Staff Charity, TASC.

Leading the daredevil carers from the front is general manager Hayley Wilkinson who said the team were inspired by the work of the paramedics at West Midlands Ambulance Service.

“We baked some cakes to mark the charity’s 15th anniversary a few weeks ago and were just amazed at the stories the crews told us,” said mum of two Hayley.

“We heard of all the struggles they’ve gone through in the pandemic and it really hit me.

“When I started telling the staff at Harper Fields they all wanted to do something to help our wonderful paramedics.”

The team came up with a sponsored parachute jump and four brave souls, including Hayley, have stepped forward to take the plunge on behalf of the Balsall Common care home.

“I’m no daredevil and when I went home to tell my husband and our two children they were all a bit worried,” said Hayley.

“We’re doing it as tandem parachute jumps on December 19 – I believe it’s going to be cold.”

TASC is the leading UK charity working to support current and retired ambulance service personnel and their families.

Increasingly, people are turning to the charity for help with multiple and complex needs.

The team have set themselves the target of raising £1,600 for the charity and have already brought in £560.
