Solihull care home resident makes new four-legged friend

A SOLIHULL care home resident made a new four-legged friend thanks to Birmingham Dogs Home.

Ronald Peck spent 17 years caring and walking for miles with for his best companion, Minnie, before he moved in Ardenlea Court Bupa Care Home.

Last year, representatives from Birmingham Dogs Home visited the home to talk about their work and the speaker brought her dog Bernie along.

Residents and staff donated treats, toys and food to the charity, and gave Bernie lots of belly rubs too.

Ronald took a particular shine to the four-pawed visitor and the home’s activities coordinator, Maisie Buckley, made a request to see if the charity could bring another dog in for him to meet.

A marketing team member agreed and brought her own adopted dog, Buddy, to meet Ronald and taste test some of the treats residents had been baking.

Ronald said: “We met Buddy the dog, who taste tested our treats. Judging by his waggy tail, he really enjoyed them.

“It made my day, and I can’t wait for my next trip to the dogs home.”

Maisie added: “We have many dog-loving residents at Ardenlea Court and lots of good bakers, so it made a nice change to bake dog treats instead of our usual cakes.

“It was a great way to get everyone involved in the charity work, plus an amazing opportunity for Ron to make another fury friend. We can tell it means a lot to him.”
