SILHILLIANS are being called on to dig deep and help raise funds to help care for abandoned and unwanted dogs surrendered at Birmingham Dogs Home.
The charity, which has a base in Catherine De Barnes, is encouraging residents to take part in its Spring Into May fundraising challenge.
The challenge will see participants choose their own challenge to complete over the month, such as walking, running, cycling, or any personal goal. The challenge is open to individuals, families, and workplaces and can be easily signed up for online.
The suggested fundraising target is £100, but any amount raised will make a difference to this necessary Birmingham charity. Those who reach the £50 mid-point will receive a free gift of thanks.
The money raised will provide crucial shelter, food, and medical treatment for the dogs cared by Birmingham Dogs Home – which, despite rescuing over 2,000 animals each year – receive no government funding and relies solely on the generosity of donators.
It costs the charity £6,000 a day just to keep the doors open, every penny raised is vital.
Last year, long time supporter Sheila Mansell raised over £200 alone during her fundraiser challenge.
She said “Having supported Birmingham Dogs Home for over 50 years, it always a pleasure to help this wonderful charity.
“Sasha and I enjoyed walking many miles in our local Sutton Coldfield park during this Spring into May Virtual Challenge and meeting some new people along the way and explaining our cause we were walking for.”
Rachel Frost, events and community fundraising manager, at Birmingham Dogs Home said: “Every step you take helps a dog in need. We think that’s amazing. This May, we’re encouraging you to challenge yourself, support local rescue dogs and make the month really matter.
“Our four-legged friends will thank you for your kindness and determination. We wouldn’t be able to care for them without you.”
Birmingham Dogs Home is one of the UK’s oldest and best-known animal charities, providing care since 1892.
