Solihull brothers ready to take on Birmingham Marathon in honour of dad

THREE SOLIHULL brothers are getting their running shoes on ready to take on the Birmingham Marathon in honour of their dad.

James, Tom and Ben Davis have decide to complete the 26.2-mile event in October in aid of Parkinson’s UK after their dad, Pat, was diagnosed with the disease in 2013.

Being an avid sportsman in his youth, the 68-year-old also ran the Birmingham Marathon the last time it was hosted in the City, 20 years ago.

Because of this, the boys felt as though it made sense for them to challenge themselves by running the marathon in recognition of their father’s achievements as well as raising money for the charity.

Eldest brother Ben said: “Our Dad now describes himself as being trapped by being unable to do things he loves. He feels depressed and frustrated by this but tries very hard to continue as best he can.

“Our Mother is Dad’s carer and despite the massive changes Parkinson’s has impacted on their lives, she keeps soldiering on.

“She’s booked trips to Scandinavia, Spain, USA and Nepal- so they can see Everest- in order to keep moving forward to the best of their abilities and make their lives as enjoyable as possible.

“This is why we hope to raise £2,000 for Parkinson’s UK and contribute to such a well deserving charity.”

So far the boys have raised £1,700 and hope to reach their target by the time of the marathon.

Tom said: “I’m looking forward to running a marathon with my two brothers as it is something I felt was a purposeful venture and one I could treasure in years to come.

“I also want to fight for something that I hope fundraising can bring, and that’s to find a cure for the condition so that my Dad and anyone else who has Parkinson’s can have a much improved lifestyle.”

Pat is an ex sportsman, playing rugby and swimming to a high standard.

He is a retired PE teacher from Heartlands High School where he spent a lot of his time helping children reach educational milestones that they may not have achieved, had it not been for him.
