A SOLIHULL centre opened to support women affected by breast cancer has received a £1,000 donation from a regional building society.

The West Brom Building Society’s Mercian Community Trust has given Breast Cancer Haven funds to provide the centre’s day-to-day services and deliver new equipment for yoga classes.

More than 220 women have already benefited from the services on offer at the Breast Cancer Haven based at St Bernard’s Road in Olton, Solihull.

It opened in October 2017 and it is the sixth Breast Cancer Haven centre to open in the UK.

Breast Cancer Haven is a national charity that supports women throughout and after their breast cancer treatment.

It supports women struggling to keep confidence and strength and provides a tailored package of emotional, physical and practical support.

It has a team of experienced healthcare professionals, counsellors and therapists who support visitors and their families with the impact of breast cancer.

Matthew Price, fundraising officer at Breast Cancer Haven, West Midlands, said: “The West Brom’s support is hugely appreciated and will assist us in being able to continue offering our vital services

“Our support is free of charge and we provide a fully comprehensive package tailored to each individual.

“We provide at least 10 hours of therapy time, ranging from acupuncture and aromatherapy through to emotional support, and also offer counselling to family and friends of people that have been diagnosed with breast cancer.

“In addition, we run a number of classes, workshops, talks and courses to benefit the people using our support services at Breast Cancer Haven and create a real sense of community for those affected by breast cancer.”

The Mercian Community Trust is a partnership between the West Brom Building Society and the Diocese of Lichfield which supports community groups and charitable causes throughout the West Midlands.
