Solihull Apprentice Show welcomes young people, families and employers

THE NEXT generation of workers across Solihull had the chance to find out more about local opportunities at the Solihull Apprenticeship Show.

More than 2,000 young people and parents attended the free event to find out what’s on offer up to degree level across the region.

Employers and training providers across various sectors including construction, technology, financial, hospitality and health care were on hand at Cranmore Park to talk to visitors.

Apprentices from Virgin Media O2, Make UK, Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), British Army, NHS University Hospitals Birmingham, and the Council shared their experiences and answered questions from young people exploring apprenticeship pathways.

The Mayor of Solihull, Councillor Diana Holl-Allen, said: “The Solihull Apprenticeship Show was a great opportunity for young people to find out more about this alternative route for further education.

“It was great to see that the venue was packed with visitors. I was amazed by the energy from everyone. Thanks to all the companies and organisations who took part and to staff who organised such a successful event that helps young people to find their way to employment.”

Councillor Ian Courts, Leader of Solihull Council, said: “Sometimes, I feel that the word ‘apprentice’ does not do justice to illustrate the wide range of interesting and skilled jobs where training can be available. Getting the right training can help put young people on the right track to a successful career, which lays a solid foundation for our economic growth in the long run.

“It was fantastic that so many young people were able to hear about the experience from current apprentices and learn about the opportunities offered by local employers such as Balfour Beatty Vinci and Paragon, as well as our very own staff at Solihull Council.”
