Solihull Editorial 29th Jul, 2023   0

A SOLIHULL apprentice has been shortlisted for a prestigious award.

Oliver Sands, a engineering apprentice at JCB, has made it through to the final of the Engineering Apprentice of the Year category at Engineering Talent Awards.

The former Arden Academy student has completed his Mechanical Engineering degree at Sheffield Hallam University.

The 22-year-old is one of the company’s Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) ambassadors and a mentor for new apprentices.

He said: “I am really passionate about encouraging people to consider apprenticeships and changing perceptions about taking this career path.

“I have learned so much both at work and at university and it is a real privilege to represent the company at the awards.”

Oliver has made it to the final alongside his colleague, Kerlin Biji – from Derby, who is up for the Multicultural Apprenticeship Awards.

The pair will find out if they come out on top at awards ceremonies in London, in September and October, respectively.
