A 21-YEAR-OLD anxiety sufferer has started writing a blog in a bid to get others talking about mental health.
Charlotte Robinson decided to speak out about her personal battle she has had since she was 13 to show others they are not alone.
The Dickens Heath resident started publishing articles on Me, Myself and Anxiety about what she has been through and was she is going through.
Since going live about a month ago she is amazed at the response so far.
She said: “I share what I write on Facebook and it’s mostly friends and family who read it.
“But they are starting to engage and speak out about their own personal situation, showing that although I was hoping to reach one audience it really does touch everyone.”
Charlotte wanted to write something that would appeal to those who had just been discharged from Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services and like her were referred to adult mental health services.
And she wants to get those people talking not only to professionals but their friends and family about how they are doing.
She added: “I want to make mental health as part of normal conversation and people to be as open with it as they are a broken leg.
“I think more people should open up and talk – particularly young men where there is still a ‘man up’ culture – so they don’t feel as though they are going through it alone.
“Those who read my blog will see they are not the only one to suffer from these issues.”
In her articles Charlotte writes about what life was like for her when her mental health issues were first being recognised.
She speaks about how she thinks others could handle situations differently to how she was and the positive impact this would have on sufferers.
