LABOUR Party members in Solihull and Meriden have staged a protest at Solihull Railway station against the proposed railway ticket office closures.
This is part of a wider national campaign organised by the RMT union, as rail companies want to close nearly a thousand ticket offices across the rail network.
A spokesperson from Solihull and Meriden Labour said: “They offer advice and security, especially to elderly and disabled passengers, and anyone requiring additional support.
“Closing ticket offices will have a massively detrimental impact on passenger services, safety, and the accessibility of the rail network.
“Not everyone can use, or has access to, online ticketing platforms, nor can everyone easily use the complicated automated ticketing machines.”
The consultation period closes on the 1st September 2023, and Labour members are urging residents to complete the online forms in order to raise their own personal objections to the closures.
