AN ADDICTION service has praised its volunteers for the vital work they do.

To mark Volunteers’ Week, which ran from June 1 to 7, Solihull Integrated Addiction Service (SIAS) celebrated the vital work its team of volunteers do to support those struggling with alcohol or drug misuse in the borough.

Mark Pemberton, service manager – recovery and engagement at SIAS, said: “Our peer mentors and lived experience volunteers are at the heart of SIAS. They work alongside our service users as mentors, using their own recovery journey to inspire hope in those who are struggling.

“Relationships are based on mutual respect not hierarchy. Our volunteers help build confidence and resilience and offer encouragement and emotional support.

“They also help facilitate our extensive timetable of activities from the art group and badminton to reduction group and cycling and more, which are crucial elements in our day-to-day practices here at SIAS.

“We are so grateful for all the hard work and dedication each and every volunteer at SIAS gives day in and day out to those who need support.”

SIAS is commissioned by Solihull Council to deliver a free and confidential treatment and support service for anyone struggling with alcohol or drug misuse in the borough.

It also supports others, including families and children, who may be affected by someone else’s addiction.
