THE FIGHT against shoplifters and assaults on retail staff continues across Solihull after three have been jailed.

Over the last few months, the Smiths Wood and Chelmsley Wood neighbourhood teams have arrested and prosecuted a number of people responsible for shop thefts and assaults on staff.

Three offenders arrested by the teams last week have been jailed for thefts from shops in and around Chelmsley Wood, Smiths Wood and the borough.

Paul Jones, 50, was jailed for 30 weeks after stealing from Poundland in Chestnut Walk, as well as breaching a criminal behaviour order banning him from the area.

Another offender, Daniel Boulton, 36, was jailed for 12 months after being convicted of a series of thefts from Morrisons and the Co-Op in both Smiths Wood and Birmingham throughout November.

A third offender, William McInteggert, 37, was jailed for 40 weeks for a spree of thefts from shops in Birmingham and Solihull in November.

West Midlands Police said since the beginning of April, the Chelmsley Wood and Smiths Wood teams have arrested 45 people for a total of 205 shoplifting offences leading to 170 charges.

It added: “These arrests and charges all help to make businesses and customers safer, as knowing where and when shoplifting offences happen, along with knowing who is responsible, helps us plan our patrols and operations and build up our intelligence picture.”
