SHIRLEY’S Royal British Legion’s annual Poppy Appeal has officially been launched.

The Mayor of Solihull, Councillor Annette Mackenzie, has officially launched the annual Poppy Appeal in Shirley, calling on the public to wear their poppies with pride in support of the Armed Forces community.

The Mayor was joined by Shirley Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal Organiser Steve Coley and his Deputy Colin Coley with Standard Bearers Richard Coy and Michael Williams.

This year’s campaign encourages everyone to reflect, remember, and support — whether by wearing a poppy, attending a local remembrance event, or donating to help veterans and their families.

As Remembrance Sunday approaches on November 9 residents are invited to come together to honour the service and sacrifice of those who have defended our freedoms.

On Remembrance Sunday Services will be held at St James the Great Church, where veterans, serving personnel, and members of the public will gather for a two-minute silence at 11am.

The Mayor of Solihull, said: “I was honoured to officially launch this year’s Poppy Appeal. Every poppy makes a huge difference to the lives of our Armed Forces community, and I would encourage everyone to show their support and pay their respect to our courageous service men and women whose sacrifices we must remember and respect.

“By supporting this year’s Poppy Appeal you can make a huge difference, with the funds raised crucial in helping both current and former members of the British Armed Forces and their families.

“Thank you to the Shirley Royal British Legion for their unwavering dedication in providing vital support for Solihull’s Armed Forces Community.”

Funds raised through the Poppy Appeal provide vital support to veterans, serving personnel, and their families – from mental health services to financial assistance and housing support.
