A CHIPPY tea will be on the cards for Shirley residents thanks to a generous donation.
Shirley Lions Club has been handed £1,600 from the Barchester’s Charitable Foundation to organise events for elderly people in the borough.
The Foundation aims to give funds to groups across the country which help older people and adults with a disability or mental health problems.
Fountains care home welcomed Shirley Lions volunteers Ken and Sophie to a small gathering in the home to receive the cheque.
Ken said with the will be used to treat all 200 members to a fish and chip lunch as well as buy supplies for the centre where events are hosted.
Shirley Lions organises and supports a wide range of community events including a party for older residents in Shirley, where around 200 guests are invited to enjoy lunch and an afternoon of entertainment all for free.
