SHIRLEY Golf Club has been shortlisted for a national award.
The Stratford Road club has made it to the final of the Club of the Year category in the England Golf Awards 2025.
The awards recognise players, clubs, facilities and counties who have all gone above and beyond over the past 12 months to help raise the profile of the game.
Shirley Golf Club has been recognised for it Golf for Disabled Children project which delivers free coaching to over 100 Special Educational Needs and Disabilities children from local schools every week – it has achieved this for over 20 years through money donated from members and its annual GFDC Golf Day.
Other initiatives the club was shortlisted for was turning dead trees into handmade outdoor seating and donated to a local forestry school for outdoor lessons and the creation of its Greener/Eco Golf Network which allows local clubs, people and communities to work together on improving sustainability and wildlife in the local area, and providing free conference space for education on the same topic.
England Golf Chief Executive Jeremy Tomlinson said: “Our awards night is always an important and special evening for us, as we recognise and applaud all the wonderful things that are happening around the country to help our great game take strides forward.
“Everyone who was nominated should be proud of what they have achieved, and in what is a tough but ultimately rewarding task every year for our judging panels, we will welcome our remarkable finalists to Manchester in April to crown some of those outstanding achievements on what will no doubt be a night to remember.”
Shirley Golf Club will find out at a ceremony in April if it has been crowned winner in its category.
