Shirley StreetWatch’s founding member Brian and co-ordinator Theresa collected the award, which is given to groups who have all shown great dedication and support to their community, from Solihull Commander Chief Superintendent Rich Harris.

He said: “The group are a great resource for us and provide an invaluable link between us and the local community.

“We look forward to working with them for many years to come and would encourage anyone else interested in making a difference in their community to get involved with your local StreetWatch group, you can make a real difference.”

West Midlands Police said Shirley StreetWatch Group is a great example of how effective groups can be – they are dedicated to supporting their local community and working with police and local partners, with their patrols covering their whole area.

Their activity includes delivering targeted crime prevention messaging when there are spikes in certain crimes and they run regular general patrols looking for insecure vehicles, litter picking, reporting on poor parking around schools and using the ‘Fix my street’ function to make sure local issues are picked up.
