SHIRLEY Lions is inviting residents to a summer of fun with the return of its carnival.

The summer celebration will take place on Saturday, July 8 in Shirley Park in Stratford Road – and with this year’s theme being Edwardian Era audiences can look forward to performances from the Shirley Brass Band and the Animated Dance Academy.

Carnival chairman Lion Jeremy Lees said the carnival always aims to provide a fun-filled day for all the family while raising money for charity.

He added: “This year we are raising money for the Lions’ own projects – a mixture of local and international causes.

“It is hoped that the public will turn up in their thousands to support these worthwhile causes.”

The carnival will also offer plenty for youngsters, with a selection of children’s rides and stalls, a magic show by Trevor Trix and a performance by Punch and Judy.

Lion Jeremy Lees said: “The carnival has become an increasingly important event on the community’s calendar and the Lions are always looking for new attractions to appear at the carnival together with some traditional favourites.”

The event will start at 12pm and admissions will be £1.
