SHIRLEY carnival is back in full swing this weekend.
The calendar highlight, which takes place on Saturday (July 9) promises to be a return to some semblance of normality with a host of arena and audience participation events planned for the eager public.
There will be plenty on offer in Shirley Park including Rebel pro wrestling, The Shirley Pipe Band, JDC Vibe dance band and Solihull Rock Choir.
The very young have not been forgotten as the Punch and Judy will be paying a visit, a colour maze and there will be rides for all to enjoy.
Organisers, Shirley Lions, have also made sure there are plenty of stalls for visitors to look around.
New for this year is a beer tent and characters from The Central Legion.
Colin Buckley, carnival chair, said: “Over the 40 years the Lions have been organising the carnival it’s become an increasingly important event on the community’s calendar.
“This year we are raising money for the Lions’ own projects, a mixture of local, national and international causes and it is hoped that the public of Shirley will turn up in their thousands to support these worthwhile causes.”
The carnival gets underway at midday and entrance costs £2 per person.
