BUCKETS and spades are at the ready as preparations for Shirley Carnival get under way.
Local dancers and musical groups will be performing at Shirley Park on Saturday, July 7, at this year’s beach party-themed carnival.
There will also be a steel band, a limbo competition and a surfboard competition for carnival-goers to get into the spirit.
Punch and Judy will be making their way to the seaside and there will be rides and activities for children to enjoy.
Events start at noon and admission costs £1.
Carnival chairman, Sophie Lees, said they will be raising money for the Lions’ own projects as well as local, national and international causes.
