Sheldon man jailed for historic sexual abuse

Solihull Editorial 15th May, 2019   0

A SEXUAL predator from Sheldon has been jailed after abusing two young girls over almost a decade.

Mark Hill sexually abused the girls during a prolonged period while they were between the ages of nine and 15.

An investigation into the historical child sex abuse after the victims bravely came forward to recall what happened to them years previously.

It led to the now 54-year-old being found guilty of 12 offences of indecent assault and indecency with a child between 1995 and 2004.

Hill, of Mapledene Road, was sentenced at Birmingham Crown Court to six years in prison with a further six years on extended licence and put on the sex offenders register for life.

He was also made subject of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO).

DC Nikki Thomas, from the public protection team, said: “The bravery and courage of these women in coming forward and reliving their traumatic experiences to enable us to investigate was admirable.

“We don’t underestimate how difficult this is for victims – who could understandably want to forget their ordeals – but their willingness to speak out was crucial in putting Hill behind bars for his crimes.

“Time is no barrier in reporting sexual abuse and the public should feel confident we will always investigate and prosecute offenders.”
