THERE was double delight for choristers at Kineton Green Primary School – not only did they take part in a national performance but they also came top in a Solihull-wide competition.
Pupils from years 5 and 6 attended the Young Voices concert at the BP Pulse Arena, performing alongside more than 6,000 pupils from schools across the country.
This was the school’s third time taking part in the event, with pupils rehearsing weekly since September in preparation for the performance.
The children sang ten songs during the concert, incorporating British Sign Language and choreographed dance.
The event also featured professional soloists and performances from dance troupe Urban Strides, giving the children the opportunity to experience live music on a truly inspiring scale.
Alongside this national experience, Kineton Green Primary has also achieved outstanding success closer to home.
The school entered the Touchwood Christmas Choir Competition for the third time this year and was thrilled to be named overall winner.
Members of both the school’s choirs performed at Touchwood, singing a varied programme that included traditional carols, songs from well-loved Christmas films and multi-part choral pieces, with opportunities for soloists to shine.
The choirs, who practise weekly, competed against around 20 other local schools and were selected as winners through a public vote.
The prize included a £500 award, which will be reinvested directly into enhancing music provision across the school.
These events were led by year 6 teacher and music lead for the school, Hannah Maddock.
Neil Kitching, principal at Kineton Green Primary School said: “We are incredibly proud of our children and the dedication they have shown to their music.
“Taking part in a national event like Young Voices and winning a competitive local choir competition are fantastic achievements, but most importantly they reflect the confidence, teamwork and joy our pupils gain through music.
“These experiences stay with children for life and play a vital role in their wellbeing, creativity and personal development.”
