MAYOR of Solihull has received his first salute from his newest Sea Scout recruit.
Katie Russell, an Explorer Scout from 4th Knowle Sea Scout Group, has been selected as the new Mayor’s Sea Scout – and will be joining the Mayor on a number of official events.
During her time with the group she has achieved several awards, the most recognisable being the Chief Scout Gold Award and the Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award.
She is now working towards her Silver Duke of Edinburgh Award with an aim to complete the Gold Award in the near future.
During her seven committed years, the determined teenager has taken part in a long-list of activities and exhibition, including the Six Summit Challenge and a week aboard HMS Bristol.
But her hard work doesn’t stop there.
While studying for her A-levels, Katie has taken up the position of dance demonstrator at Learning Curves Dance.
Extremely pleased with the latest recruit, Mayor of Solihull, Coun Mike Robinson said: “It has been an absolute pleasure to have met Katie and I very much look forward to her joining the Mayoress and myself on a number of our official duties.
“Most importantly I hope she enjoys the experience and gets to see some of the great work going on within the borough.”
