Runner puts best foot forward on American beaches in aid of Royal Star and Garter Homes

A DEDICATED runner put his best foot forward on a beach run in memory of his father.

Kevin Rudge ran along Jekyll Island in Georgia, America, in September and raised £245 for The Royal Star and Garter Home in Solihull.

Mr Rudge, a community fundraiser for the homes, has ran on beaches in Miami and Naples in Florida.

Mr Rudge got involved with the charity, which cares for military veterans living with disability and dementia, when his father moved into the Monkspath Hall Road Home in 2012.

He said: “My father went into the home and spent the last year of his life there, where he received the most fantastic care imaginable.

“Not only was my father well looked after but the staff were also amazing to us all as a family, extremely supportive and understanding.

“This year the Solihull home celebrates its 10th birthday and I would like to raise money to give something back to this wonderful home and help it continue to offer the high level specialist care to our veterans and their partners.”
