ORGANISATIONS from across Solihull came together as part of Rogue Trader Week to target offenders, raise awareness and ensure Solihull is a safer place to live and work.
Teams from Solihull Council worked alongside West Midlands Police, West Midlands Fire Service, Her Majesty Warrants Officers, Civil Parking Enforcement Officers, Driver and Vehicle Standards Authority and Solihull Safeguarding Adults Board.
Joint patrols were carried out throughout Solihull, targeting and challenging rogue traders and doorstep criminals as well as advising residents as to the dangers of doorstep crime.
Partners also carried out multi agency safety advice sessions at community group meetings across the borough. To complement these advice sessions, Neighbourhood Watch co-ordinators carried out leaflet drops within their given area to reinforce the message.
On May 10 the agencies came together to carry out a Multi-Agency Vehicle Exercise.
A check point was set up on the Chester Road at the junction of Clopton Crescent. The aim of the day was to reduce overall crime in the area including rogue trading, to raise awareness around road safety.
The police’s speed operation saw a total 464 vehicles checked with 330 driving at the speed limit (found to be travelling at 34mph or lower) while 77 were travelling at 35 to 39 mph and 42 at 40 mph or faster.
The fastest speed recorded was 61 mph. All were dealt with either through advice and education from the fire service or a fixed penalty notice.
This annual national campaign raises awareness of doorstep crime and prompts a week of action to target rogue traders and criminal activity.
Residents can reduce the risk of becoming a victim of doorstep crime by avoiding cold callers. Instead contact registered professional traders and obtain written quotes for work and only pay for services once work is complete.
