POLICE are appealing for information after a suspected rogue scrap metal dealer threatened a woman in Sheldon and stole her car.

A man allegedly knocked on the door of a house on Hollywell Road, Sheldon, and asked the homeowner if she’d like her rubbish collected at around 1.30pm on March 30.

It’s thought she agreed to pay £30 for the man to clear the debris from outside her house.

A short time later it is alleged he knocked on her door again, but when she refused to let him in, he forced his way into the address and threatened her with a knife.

Fearing for her own safety, she ran into the street and looked on in horror on as the offender jumped in her Skoda Fabia and sped off.

Neighbours reported the man was using a blue van to collect scrap metal.

Police have since recovered the stolen Skoda, and it’s been sent for extensive forensic testing as enquires continue.

Anyone who recognises the man, or has any information which could help the investigation should contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 and quote crime number 20BE/70875E/18.
