ROBIN Hood Crematorium and chapel will be closed from Thursday (June 1) until late October for vital improvement works.
People will still be able to access the site to visit gravesides and memorials, and a full burial service will also continue to be available. Areas that are in and out of use will be clearly signposted.
The improvements involve replacing the three existing cremators with three new cremators, as well as updating the welfare and operational room facilities, ash processing room, and the heating and ventilation systems. Landscaping and roofing works will also be carried out, and the chapel will be refurbished and redecorated.
Those who need crematorium services during this period will be able to use the Council’s other cremation facility at Woodlands Cemetery, which is located in the north of the borough, or those provided by other local authorities.
Visitor opening times will remain the same at Robin Hood while the works take place.
These are 9am to 6pm Monday to Saturday and 10am to 6pm on Sundays and Bank Holidays.
