A RISING Knowle actor is set to star on the silver screen in crime film Cookster – The Darkest Days.

Samuel Staite takes on the lead role of Jason Cook as a youngster in the first part of the film trilogy from the books by Jason Cook.

Jason wrote a series of books about his highly unusual life where age 12 he began going down a slippery slope leading him into the UK’s underworld ruled by cocaine, crime and drug dealing.

The film is said to fill in gaps from the story about Jason’s childhood and what lead to such a problematic life of criminal dealings and eventual prison.

Samuel was chosen for his sensitivity to the character, a young boy with dyslexia, picked on by his teacher and often misunderstood by his parents.

The Arden School pupil stars alongside Nick Moran from Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and Tracy Shaw from Coronation Street, who play Jason’s parents, who loved and supported him, but no one picked up that he had dyslexia so he struggled with the world around him.

He also appears alongside his aunt and Arden School alumni Tania Staite, who plays Jason’s unsympathetic teacher in the film.

Samuel said he is immensely proud of his role in the film and has already won an award.

This wasn’t Samuel’s first taste of film-making he previously had a role in Djohnny Chen’s Dig Me No Grave which was filmed near Coventry
