Resounding Election night success for Tory stalwart Caroline Spelman

MERIDEN MP Caroline Spelman is also celebrating a resounding election night victory – securing 33,873 votes – nearly 20,000 more than her closes rival.

Tory stalwart Mrs Spelman, who has been Meriden MP since 1997, secured nearly 62 per cent of the 54,463 votes cast – an improvement of seven per cent on the 2015 General Election.

Labour’s Tom McNeil was Mrs Spelman’s closest rival taking 14,675 votes.

Speaking after her resounding victory Mrs Spelman said she was delighted that yet more voters had put their trust in her.




“My constituency is very mixed socially and I think it shows that if you are prepared to be a champion for the people who need your help they will put their trust in you, almost regardless of party allegiance.”

How the votes were cast in the Meriden constituency:


Caroline Spelman (Conservative) – 33,873 – Re-elected as MP.

Tom Mcneil (Labour ) – 14,675

Antony Rogers (Liveral Democrat) – 2,663

Leslie Kaye (UKIP) – 2,016

Alison Gavin (Green) – 1,416
