Remember a loved one - Shirley Memory Tree is there for all

SILHILLIANS are being asked to add a splash of colour to Shirley Park and decorate a tree in memory of loved ones.

The Friends of Shirley Park planted a Christmas tree after noticing touching memorial baubles placed on a tree in the park.

Helena Morrissey, chair at Friends of Shirley Park, said previously members would sneak out one evening before Christmas and decorate one of the trees for fun.

Inspired, the group arranged for a real Christmas tree to be planted, near Parkside flats and Asda, for decorating as a memory tree.

“Each year, we re-hang baubles and decorations from the previous year, but we are keen for people to add their own decorations in remembrance of lost loved ones,” said Helena.

“The tree is a peaceful place and hopefully provides a little bit of comfort to people at this time of year.”

“We will remove all decorations on the tree on January 5 and keep them safe until next year when we will re-hang them.”
