A CARE home resident traded his Solihull home for a week-long retreat in Portishead.
Colin Hough has been a resident at Solihull’s Ardenlea Grove Bupa Care Home for two and a half years.
After a recent period of ill health, spending a number of weeks recovering in the hospital, Colin was eager to experience more activities in life and expressed that he desired a change of scenery to the care home manager, Lisa Hughes.
This inspired Lisa to organise Colin a week away at at Norewood Lodge Bupa Care Home in Portishead, allowing him to experience new adventures, all whilst being taken care of by Bupa staff.
The home was chosen as Colin’s sister lives nearby in Bristol and so, he was also able to spend quality time with her.
While staying at Norewood Lodge Bupa Care Home, Colin was able to go on several day trips with his sister. They visited Portishead Marina, Aerospace Bristol, and Portishead Town where they enjoyed lunches.
Colin said: “It was really nice to spend time in a different environment for a change, it’s rejuvenated me and has been just what I needed. I loved being so close to my sister and spending time with her.”
Lisa said: “Colin was so excited when we told him our idea, he researched Norewood Lodge thoroughly on his iPad, watching all the of the virtual tours online.
“We arranged for him to meet with Norewood Lodge’s home manager, Pam, who chatted with him about his wishes and needs.
“I’m so pleased we were able to organise this for Colin; he had such a fantastic time.
“He took many photos which he shared with us on his return. He’s already asking which Bupa care home he can visit next! The activity was such a success, I hope it’s something we can continue to do for Colin and our other residents who are able.”
