A CHARITY which houses loved ones of military personnel and veterans in hospital has been handed a generous donation.

Fisher House UK has has received £7,500 from The Red Arrows Trust, which is part of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham Charity.

Each year The Red Arrows Trust give over £100,000 to support a wide range of charitable causes up and down the country, and this year they have given £7,500 to Fisher House UK.

Part of Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham Charity, Fisher House provides free accommodation to families of military patients, just a five-minute walk from the hospital.

Fisher House takes away the added stress of having to travel to and from the hospital or finding somewhere nearby to stay.

It is seen as more than just a house by those who use it – the accommodation is seen as a safe and calm space for families to spend time together, away from the clinical environment of hospital and provides a lifeline for families and makes what is already an extremely difficult time slightly more manageable.

The Red Arrows Trust’s chair of trustees, Air Vice Marshal Gary Waterfall said: “We are extremely proud to be supporting Fisher House UK with this donation.

“The work Fisher House UK and the hospital charity does for military patients and their families is so important and we are delighted to be able to help make a difference.”

Former RAF Corporal, Stuart Robinson, experienced first-hand the impact Fisher House can have after he was seriously injured in an IED explosion in Afghanistan in 2013.

Stuart lost both of his legs and received treatment at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham.

Thanks to Fisher House, his family were able to stay nearby and visit him whenever they wanted.

Stuart said: “During those difficult early days of my recovery, Fisher House gave me and my family a place to escape. It was our sanctuary, our bubble, our safe haven. I can’t thank Fisher House enough for looking after them so well.”
