A LOCAL businessman is bringing some pre-Christmas cheer to Knowle with the launch of the village’s first Ale Rooms and wine bar following a £100,000 investment.

Mark Caldicott (pictured) and wife Amanda from Hampton-in- Arden, have revamped the site of a former undertakers and will open the Ale Rooms in Knowle High Street on Friday (December 2.)

And the entrepreneurial couple are promising to fill a big gap in the market for customers looking to enjoy a range of locally brewed cask conditioned ales and quality wines in a stylish environment.

The new venture is committed to supporting the growing number of niche breweries across the region and will even offer a takeaway beer service for those that ‘hail the ale.’

A range of beers from Silhill Brewery will be featured including Knowle Special Ale (KSA) – brewed exclusively for the Ale Rooms – Blonde Star and the festive seasonal beer North Star.

And to complement the rotating beer range, the new venue will also be offering a selection of wines, including champagne and Prosecco, alongside artisan rums, gins and vodkas and premium bottled lagers and ciders.

For customers looking for a bite to eat, the Ale Rooms and wine bar will also serve up a range of wholesome, tasty pies from the award-winning Pieminister menu.

The British pie maker offers a range of innovative fillings using real ingredients and quality flavours.

A former regional director in the world of finance, Mark decided to quit the corporate world and follow his long held dream of opening his own wine bar.

He said: “I’ve wanted to run my own bar for a number of years so when the opportunity came to take the lease on this property I jumped at it.

“I know the area very well and am keen to provide a premium venue which will appeal to both men and women who are looking

to enjoy a drink with friends in a friendly, intimate setting.”

Mark and Amanda, who has overseen the interior design of the bar, are looking forward to welcoming locals to their new venture which they hope will provide the springboard for expansion through the opening of similar bars across the region.

The Ale Rooms and wine bar is employing eight new staff and will open from 2pm to 10pm seven days a week.
