STAY active and get plenty of sleep – that’s the secret formula to a long and happy life according to a 101-year-old.

Beryl ‘Millie’ Mills celebrated her momentous birthday with a party, complete with a specially baked cake, at Blossomfield Grange care home in Solihull.

Millie was born in London on May 31, 1921.

During the Second World War she spent two years working in the RAF where she was based in Egypt in an administration role.

And it there she met her husband, Gordon and they got married in Egypt in 1945.

After the war, Millie and Gordon returned to the UK where she worked for herself an accountant.

Heather James, General Manager at Blossomfield Grange, said: “Residents are at the heart of everything we do here at Blossomfield Grange, and we always like to throw a party for special celebrations – and Beryl’s 101st birthday was no exception.

“It was fantastic to help her celebrate this incredible milestone with her family here at Blossomfield Grange and raise a glass to a fantastic milestone – cheers to Beryl.”
