Queen of quizzes Joyce chalks up another grand total for Macmillan

JOYCE Rothschild, Solihull’s supreme award-winning charity worker, has chalked up another first with supporters of her acclaimed quiz raising a mammoth £22,514 from entry fees and donations.

The total amount raised has now reached a towering £228,534 and again, Macmillan Cancer Support will be the grateful recipient.

Jayna Kawa, a fundraising manager for the charity, thanked Joyce and her supporters for helping to ensure that levels of care for patients were well maintained.

“Macmillan couldn’t be there for people living with cancer without fantastic supporters like you,” she said.

“The phenomenal amount raised this time could fund a Macmillan nurse for over four months to give someone living with cancer essential medical, practical and emotional support.”

Joyce began her fund-boosting campaign 25 years ago after recovering from breast cancer when she was 40 and has continued to provide the financial aid to benefit the needs of cancer patients.

Joyce said it was thanks to the many generous donations that another marvellous amount had been raised.

Fans had also played their part by passing on the quiz to families and friends to make it more widely known.

Intriguing themes for each of the eagerly awaited contests are devised by Joyce and her husband, Mark.

Joyce has long enjoyed close working ties with her friend, Yasmi Roberts, to manage the administrative strands of the fundraiser.

Joyce has previously received the British Empire Medal for her firm commitment and drive as a charity worker.

The honour was seen as a fitting tribute to all she has achieved.
