ACOCKS Green schoolchildren were given a masterclass in first aid from TV show This Morning’s resident doctor.
Dr Zoe Williams was joined by first aid brand, Elastoplast and handed out advice to key stage one pupils at Acocks Green Primary School on the importance of proper wound care and healing.
Dr Williams showed the children how to treat cuts and grazes, identifying when to call 999, and bringing to life the important role of a plasters to stop infection.
The sessions took place off the back of research conducted by the company this year which found children in the West Midlands missed the most days from school or nursery every month due to accidents and injuries compared to children elsewhere in the country.
Sarah Ward, deputy head at Acocks Green Primary School said: “First Aid education is vitally important to ensure that children can help in an emergency.
“Our children are the next generation of lifesavers.
“We loved the visit from Dr Zoe. She made the message about First Aid very clear and suitable for all our learners – even our youngest. All children left the session donning a plaster and huge smiles.”
Jordan Guest, assistant brand manager at Elastoplast, added: ‘“The school first aid workshops with Dr Zoe Williams were a great success, the children were so engaged with the sessions and Zoe, showing such an eagerness to learn all about wound care treatment and what to do in an emergency.
“We were delighted that the children could take away from each session a solid foundation of knowledge and understand the basics of appropriate wound care.”
