Promoting kindness for The Diana Award

Solihull Editorial 11th Mar, 2024   0

ANTI-BULLYING messages are being spread across Solihull thanks to a group of schoolchildren taking on a challenge in honour of the late Diana, Princess of Wales.

The nine-strong group from Solihull School visited Eversfield Primary School to present an assembly, welcomed Shruti Saujani, FA EDI lead who came to Solihull to speak about her experiences. and travelled to St George’s Park for International Women’s Day as part of The Diana Award for Anti-Bullying.

The pupils involved range from Year 7 to Year 13 and share and reflect the priorities of the different pupil bodies in regard to the most effective ways of combatting bullying and the most impactful strategies for addressing bullying across different age groups.

Speaking of the accolade, head of lower school, Mr Gledhill said: “In completing the award, our pupils chose to pursue the ‘community badge’ which is defined as ‘any events or initiatives that involve your wider school community in your anti-bullying work’.

“To fulfil this commitment, the children involved selected five actions from the options, picking those activities that would make a positive impact on the local community.

“We’re incredibly proud of all our participants.”

The Diana Award is the only charity set up in memory of the late Diana, Princess of Wales and focusses on her belief that young people have the power to change the world.

Its mission is to empower young people to lead that change through a range of initiatives which unlock their potential, inspire action and create opportunities.

The Diana Award defines bullying behaviour as ‘repeated, negative behaviour that is intended to make others feel upset, uncomfortable or unsafe.’
