Priorities please! Council launches new adult day care survey

Solihull Editorial 25th Aug, 2021   0

SOLIHULL Council is refreshing its strategy for adult day opportunities (formerly called day services) and has launched a survey to find out what people who use services and their carers want over the next five years.

Councillor Tony Dicicco, cabinet member for adult social care and health, said: “Enabling people to be independent and take part in local activities is a priority for the Council, especially for older people and those living with a disability.

“The refreshed Day Opportunities strategy will build on the work our services did before Covid and what we learned during the pandemic.

“We want to promote independence and life skills, help people feel connected to their community and develop friendships.

“Supporting people to become work ready, where appropriate, and enabling carers to continue in their caring role through access to respite and breaks will also be important themes of the strategy.

Coun Dicicco added: “I would encourage everyone with an interest in day opportunities for adults in Solihull to get involved and use the survey to share their views.

“We will follow up the survey with more focussed work with people and their carers in the autumn, to develop the new strategy.”

The Council’s Day Opportunities strategy aims to cover community opportunities and support for all adults with care and support needs in Solihull, including those with a learning disability, physical disability, autism, mental health needs, and older people whose needs mean that they are Care Act eligible (including people who pay for their own care and support and through direct payments.)

The survey is open until Sunday, September 19.
