Powering up North Solihull Sports Centre

SOLAR panel at North Solihull Sports Centre have been used to power energy at the leisure centre.

A total of 722 panels were installed on the roof of the leisure centre in late 2024.

Since the panels were put into place tens of thousands of kilowatt hours of energy have been produced by the panels, with excess energy sent onto the National Grid on sunnier days.

Councillor Tony Dicicco, cabinet member for Public Health, said: “It was fantastic to hear about the impact the solar panels are already having, even through the colder and greyer days in winter.

“Knowing that the entire leisure centre is regularly powered by the solar panels shows just how big an impact they can have in reducing the council’s energy footprint, helping us get one step nearer to our net zero goal.”

North Solihull Sports Centre and Tudor Grange Leisure Centre are run by Everyone Active in partnership with Solihull Council.

James Forsyth, general manager at North Solihull Sports Centre, added: “The solar panels are making a real difference to our energy costs.

“From the council’s property services team to Solihull Active, it was a real team effort to make sure the installation went as smoothly as it did.”

The panel installation at North Solihull Sports Centre was funded by Sport England’s Swimming Pool Support Fund.
