THOUSANDS of hand-crafted poppies adorn the entrance of a Shirley church in honour of the fallen.
Parishioners at St James the Great have hand-made 5,000 poppies which have gone on display on the church tower for Remembrance Sunday.
The sensational piece honours not only the brave soldiers who have fought in conflicts across the globe but also the animals are remembered with purple poppies and the civilians who died are remembered with the white poppies.
Ann Turner, one of the organisers at the Church Road church said: “It has been a great community involvement, meeting new and old acquaintances.
“The poppies had come from around the world and had been shared with at least four local churches.
“I personally, would like to thank everyone who has participated in all aspects of this marvellous project, and we should be very proud of our achievement.”
