Poppy Appeal launches in Shirley

Solihull Editorial 26th Oct, 2023   0

SHIRLEY Royal British Legion’s (RBL) annual Poppy Appeal has officially been launched – and organisers are hoping for yet another top fundraising year.

Last year the branch raised just over £44,4000 for the Poppy Appeal which provides financial, social and emotional support millions of serving and ex-servicemen and women and their families.

Poppy appeal helpers will be out in force from Saturday (October 28) in Parkgate.

The Remembrance Sunday parade is also set to return to Stratford Road this year on Remembrance Sunday (November 12).

Shirley RBL say it will form up on the north bound side of Stratford Road adjacent to the entrance to Parkgate under the instructions of the parade marshalls and stewards.

All members of the RBL, veterans and serving personnel are welcome to march on the parade with the RBL contingent.

A small service will also be held at St James’s on November 11.

Ken Russell, Shirley RBL chairman said: “I would like to thank the people of Shirley for their generosity over the years and hope that this year’s appeal will raise the vital funds that will be used to provide financial, social and emotional support to those men and women who have served or are currently serving in the British Armed Forces, and their families.”
