POPPY markings and paintings on the roads are being put in place by Solihull Council at remembrance sites across the borough.
Residents can find the markings in The Square, Solihull Town Centre; Warwick Road, by the Clock; High Street, Hampton-in-Arden; Bickenhill Road (Elmdon Lane), Marston Green; Bradford Road, Castle Bromwich; The Green, Meriden; Stratford Road, (near Church Road) Shirley; Marston Drive, Kingshurst Chelmsley Wood High Street; by the Church Knowle; Arden Square, Station Road, Dorridge; Station Road, Balsall Common and Burtons Way, Smith’s Wood
Both Balfour Beatty, the Council’s contractors, and WJ, the company which has drawn the poppy road linings, will be making contributions to the British Legion.
Traffix, another council contractor, meanwhile say they will not charge for the traffic management required to put down the markings safely.
Councillor Karen Grinsell said: “I asked if we could arrange this display of remembrance and I’m really pleased that we have been able to at such short notice.
“I know how many people were saddened by the idea of remembrance going unmarked in Solihull, but with inventive ways like this we can mark this occasion whilst keeping everyone safe.”
